In Early October, leaders from across the worker justice movement gathered for the two-day “Womxn’s Labor Leadership Symposium.” Multiple leaders from the Bargaining for the Common Good Advisory Committee and BCG network partners were featured during the event. In describing why her union is involved in BCG, CTU Vice President, Stacy Davis Gates said, “We practice common good bargaining, not just because it seems cool, or this is a way to get strategies in, but we practice it because there is no other way to practice unionism when you educate children in spaces that ain’t never loved them.”
Another advisory committee member and AFSCME 3299 Executive Director, Liz Perlman described the importance of union building with community toward transformative change based on racial and economic justice saying, “We need to share the power, we need to have people who understand the experience and what the solutions are…we have to be proactively dismantling white supremacy.” Recordings of the event are posted here.
BCG Network members featured in “Leading for Innovative Strategies in Unprecedented Times” include:
- Cindy Estrada, United Auto Workers
- Stacy Davis-Gates, Chicago Teachers Union
- Lauren Jacobs, PowerSwitch Action
