We are excited to co-release, “Billionaire Wealth vs. Community Health: Protecting Essential Workers from Pandemic Profiteers,” a report on the skyrocketing wealth of billionaires on the backs of frontline workers. We were excited to work on this report with the Institute for Policy Studies and United for Respect to draft this report in partnership with Action Center on Race and the Economy, Americans for Financial Reform, Jobs with Justice, New York Communities for Change, Step Up Louisiana, and Working Washington.
Since the initial wave of COVID-19 infections in the United States and amidst an unprecedented economic crisis, America’s billionaires have increased their collective wealth by over $1 trillion. Many of these billionaires have continued to rake in profits while denying hazard pay, PPE, and sick leave to essential workers. The report identifies a “Delinquent Dozen,” companies that have provided vital services during the pandemic while failing essential workers.
